To Help you Navigate the Hockey Parent Life

There are links to all of them to make finding and purchasing super easy. Make sure you pick up the actual books so you can take notes and pass on to your athlete!

“The Body Keeps the Score” By Bessel van der Kolk M.D. - Great read to help with mind-body approach to healing. Great with helping harvest healthy relationships with oneself and others

“The Warrior’s Meditation: The Best-Kept Secret in Self-Improvement, Cognitive Enhancement, and Stress Relief, Taught by a Master of Four Samurai Arts” By Richard L. Haight - Assists with stress relief and give a martial arts perspective into relaxation, meditation and well being. Very helpful during those tough games

“Mental Toughness for Young Athletes” By Troy Horne and Moses Horne - Invaluable information and scenarios from a fellow dad and his son, from predominantly the son’s perspective. Read it to your children or listen to it as a family.

“Mental Toughness for Young Athletes (Parent’s Guide)” By Troy Horne and Moses Horne - This is the same as the child’s book but mainly directed to the parents. How to help your child grow into that tough mindset when they need it.

“No One Wins Alone” By Mark Messier and Jimmy Roberts - Fantastic stories of struggle, real world situations and how to develop the winning mindset. It also is a great way to help your children understand the true meaning of teamwork beyond the ice. Not to mention it is written by arguably one of the best captains in ice hockey history.

“Be Water, My Friend” By Shannon Lee - Written by Bruce Lee’s daughter about all of his philosophies and teachings. Very insightful regarding adaptability, resilience, self-discovery, and motivation.

“Natural Born Heroes” By Christopher McDougall - Great blend of history, fitness, philosophy, and heroism. It shows what determination is and how you can model this for your young athlete.

“Striking Thoughts: Bruce Lee’s Wisdom for Daily Living” By Bruce Lee - A personal favorite of mine. He is a major idol in my life. I have been in martial arts for over 39 years and his thoughts, actions, teachings and philosophies will resonate with all.

“Miracle in Lake Placid: The Greatest Hockey Story Ever Told” By John Gilbert - By far one of the greatest comeback stories in ice hockey history. Not only a great read but very valuable coaching insights to the toughness of this sport.

“99: Stories of the Game” By Wayne Gretzky and Kristie McLellan Day - It is written by the GOAT of Ice hockey…. Need I say more on why I recommend this one?

“The Five Second Rule” By Mel Robbins - Just listen to it…. Many of the suggestions will change your daily perspectives.

“Inner Excellence” By Jim Murphy - This is a must read not just for Ice hockey but for life… This book will help set you up for success.
